“Maine Pyar Kiya” memories: Salman Khan on finding himself in “Kabootar Ja Ja”

Bollywood actor Salman Khan recalled an ancient incident in which he became emotional while shooting the song ‘Kabootar Ja Ja’.

Salman Khan started his acting career with a small role in the 1988 film ‘Biwi Ho Toh Aisi’. However, the 1989 hit, ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ turned the tide in his favour.

That’s why when asked about his favourite film in a recent interview, Salman was quick to answer and stated that ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ is still one of his favourite movies. Furthermore, he has stated that it was also the time that he decided that he could become a star in Bollywood.

All this happened during his first film and because of this, he turned extremely emotional and couldn’t control his tears on the movie set.

According to Salman, when he was shooting the song ‘Kabootar Ja Ja’ for the film, he realised that this was the role for him and this made him an emotional man. Says the actor,

I was about 18 years old, and there was a truly memorable moment during the shoot for the song ‘Kabootar Ja Ja’ when I suddenly knew that this was the role for me. During several narrations, I’d imagine Jackie Shroff or Anil Kapoor in those roles, but I could never actually see myself doing big films. That moment was the first time I really felt, ‘Yes, I can do this’. I had tears in my eyes.

Rajshri chose Salman to act out for the role of the male lead in ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’

After giving the auditions for the male lead, Salman was chosen by Rajshri Productions to star in the film alongside newcomer Bhagyashree. While Salman went on to do some successful commercial films in the 1990s, Bhagyashree took a break to focus on her personal life and family.

Although ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ was a commercial success at the box office, Salman had to wait for more opportunities to truly become a successful actor in Bollywood. During the IIFA Awards 2022, talked about his life in 1988 after the release of the film.

After Maine Pyar Kiya was released, Bhagyashree decided she didn’t want to work anymore, because she wanted to get married. Aur wo pura credit leke chali gayi.

Adding further, he said,

For six months, I had no movie. And that’s when a ‘devta saman aadmi’, Ramesh Taurani, entered my life. My father at that point of time had paid Rs 2,000 and coaxed producer GP Sippy to make a fake announcement in a film industry magazine that he had signed me for a film. GP did that but there was no picture. But Ramesh Taurani went to Sippy’s office and paid Rs 5 lakh for the music of the film. It was because of those Rs 5 lakhs that I finally got a film called Patthar Ke Phool (1991).

The big-hearted actor of Bollywood

Even today, Salman’s films are the talk of the town and people watch their Bhaijaan with extreme enthusiasm. However, it is noteworthy that Salman never forgets the people who helped him during his struggles in Bollywood.

In the industry, he is considered a big-hearted actor who has donated to various causes and often helps those in need. People are always in awe of him.

Apart from acting, Salman is also a successful host of the popular reality show, Bigg Boss and is currently hosting Bigg Boss OTT. However, due to a new film project, Salman has decided to quit hosting the show with Anil Kapoor replacing him.

His fans now are waiting for his latest release with bated breaths and they will surely fill up the cinema houses.
